Policies
Medical Insurance: We are “out-of-network” with all medical insurance companies. If you have out-of-network mental health benefits, we will be happy to assist you by supplying bills, diagnosis, and other information requested by your carrier for reimbursement. Patients are responsible for submitting their own claims if they choose to do so. we cannot guarantee reimbursement.
Payment of Fees: All charges are due the day of service and payable by cash, check, or credit card. Checks should be made payable to “TJ Walsh Counseling, LLC.” Accounts that are delinquent may be sent to collections. All patients must keep an active credit card on file (used for missed appointments, late cancellations, administrative work, letters & family conferences). Visits must be canceled within 48 business hours (Monday- Friday 9 AM-5 PM); otherwise, you will be charged for the time reserved for you. If a patient misses two appointments, they will be required to prepay via credit card when scheduling. There are no changes to these policies when someone other than the patient is paying for visits. Additionally, paying for visits does not change confidentiality; a patient’s progress, medical record, and privileged information can still only be given with direct consent from the patient. Fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change.
Medical Records: We do not release patient evaluations, progress notes, or therapy notes. A summary of care will be provided to patients and/or third parties when medical records are requested. Administrative rates apply to such requests, and the card on file will be used for this service.
Emergencies: If you have an emergency, you must call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. This is a requirement, as your therapist cannot be available at all times and emergencies require immediate attention. After doing so, call your therapist and leave a message with your name, number, and the reason for the call. Therapists are not always available to answer. This is why patients must call 911 or go to the emergency room before calling. If you have any concerns about this policy, you are required to discuss this with your therapist (at the initial evaluation or if they develop concerns during their course of treatment). If you have a history of self-injurious behavior, suicide attempts, or inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations, the appropriateness of care will be discussed during the initial consultation or appointment with your therapist.
Policies are subject to change.
About Fee-for-Service Counseling
Fee-for-Service Counseling may be a great option for you when you find a therapist you'd like to work with, yet he or she is not in-network with your insurance. Although this means a greater financial commitment from you, it does come with several benefits that might be worth the additional out-of-pocket expense. By choosing fee-for-service counseling, you are putting yourself in control of your treatment by being able to choose the therapist you want to see instead of being placed on a waiting list, which many in-network providers utilize. You also have the benefit of receiving higher quality care, as the counselor is not dictated by additional time-consuming insurance documentation. The minimal reporting to outside sources also provides a greater level of privacy and confidentiality when dealing with your protected healthcare information.
Another option to consider with fee-for-service counseling is that of out-of-network benefits. Not all insurance plans have this benefit; however, plans that provide this coverage can often make counseling just as affordable as seeing an in-network provider. You can determine whether your insurance plan offers out-of-network benefits simply by calling the customer service number on your insurance card and following the prompts to learn your benefit information from the automated system.
We trust this information helps you and ask that you give me a call if you would like more information on whether or not we are the best fit for you.

Individual psychotherapy sessions are typically 45-minutes long; however, longer sessions may be requested and prorated.
